There are more than 500 colonies of germs, moulds and bacteria in the average car's cabin, according to research released this month.
A car-cleaning company took samples from inside cars cars using sterile swabs and then cultivated them in agar jelly. The unhealthiest cars belonged to dog owners, with at least 766 different bacteria colonies; cars belonging to twenty-something men had around 540 colonies and young women's cars had around 470 colonies. Family cars had just 265 colonies, though older motorists keep their cars the cleanest, with only 225.

Maid wins Merc

A housemaid who won a Mercedes in a supermarket raffle has been sued by her employers because they said they should have the car. “She was doing the shopping for us,” said the wealthy Brazillians, who live next door to football star Ronaldo and already have four cars. But their maid, Rogenas da Silva, who lives in a Rio shanty town, was allowed to keep the car after a court ruled in her favour.
